The Power of Bamboo was a five-day territorial development workshop for the Korea Institute of Design Promotion, using Department 22’s ‘problems-as-opportunities’ approach. A group of 30 postgraduate students developed innovative bamboo-based business ideas to invigorate commerce in an area of significant natural assets.
Ideas, exhibited at the Gwangju Design Biennale, included: a physical/digital play-seed kit to encourage children to grow food in cities; a restaurant 'doggy-bag' box service aimed at reducing food waste and other concepts that use bamboo as a food, packaging material and more. |
Director of Design House South Korea: "Working with Department 22 was a fruitful experience. Their workshop introduced a new way of using design tools to develop sustainable local industry, addressing economic, social and environmental problems."
